Legacy Film Series
"To keep the heart unwrinkled, to be hopeful, kindly, cheerful, reverent. That is to triumph over old age."
— Amos Bronson Alcott, 1799-1888
The Legacy Film Series:
New Perspectives on Aging
Presenting a series of independent and entertaining films that portray the variety of later life experiences. Thanks to the artistry of our filmmakers, the Legacy Film Series showcases older adults telling their stories with eloquence and grace.

We wish to emphasize the lifelong contributions of our elders. In that way, we create a legacy for generations to come, so that they may look forward to the unfolding adventure of living.

Audiences both older and younger are, hopefully, inspired to use their own potential to create a 'good old age'.

The films range in duration from three minutes to ninety minutes, from little-known Academy-Award winners to student films, both documentary and fictional.

Colleges, high schools, senior centers, retirement communities, gerontology organizations and libraries are the perfect venues to host our inspiring films in your community.

Your organization may rent a single program, consisting of one-and one-half hours of films, or opt for a day-long, weekly or monthly program. A post-screening discussion led by a professional adds to the series' richness.

In San Francisco, the director of the Legacy Film Series, Sheila Malkind facilitates lively audience discussions. She sees a need for people to be prepared for the challenges of aging.
